After the small success of last month, I completely flopped on my reading this month! I managed to get one book read on the 1st of April, then I read 70% of another and DNF’d it on the 6th, and then I didn’t finish anything until the 29th!

Books I’ve DNF’d this month

It’s such a shame I had to DNF this book this month. I did manage to get 70% through it, so I did read a lot, but I couldn’t put myself through the remaining pages.

Favourite book of the month

I didn’t have a particularly successful reading month for April, by best read was by far the month. Although the book dealt with some very dark themes, it felt a little more cosy than my usual reads… all will be explained in my review, up tomorrow!

I’ll be reading: 

Kin by Snorri Kristjansson

I was given this book courtesy of Bookbridgr so I really need to get round to reading it anyway, but it just so happens the author is from Iceland! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book from an Icelandic author, so it will be interesting to see if there’s a certain writing style in this that feels different to what I’m used to reading.

Book goal update

I amazingly came up to schedule last month, but I’ve dropped behind again now. I’m not surprised as I’ve been in a huge slump this month. Plus, and yes, I’m going to keep saying it…  I have my holiday coming up soon(ish), I’ll get loads of reading done there!

Music

I’ve not discovered any new artists this month, but there have been some great releases from people I already love!

First up is the couple of new singles by Matthew Young. He’s done a cover of Running Up That Hill which is contagious, I’m always singing along!

He also released another single of his own work called Fix Me Up, which is amazing. Possibly my new favourite from him!

Next up, a bit of a different sound. Gaz Coombes (lead singer from Supergrass) is coming out with more solo work and I’m loving it! His stuff is very funky, and his voice is angelic! I really love Walk the Walk…

I’m not a huge The Weeknd fan, but he brought out a great, emotional track with Call Out My Name. It reminds me more of his original music which was less poppy than the stuff he’s making now.

And then last, but certainly not least, Post Malone released his second album: beerbongs & bentleys (and broke the first day streaming record on Spotify along with it!)

It’s very different from his album Stoney, but I’m loving it! My faves so far are Better Now, Psycho, and Stay.

Personal update

I’ve had quite a busy (and expensive!) month.

Firstly, my besties & I went to Junkyard Golf, which seems like something everyone is doing at the moment! For those of you that don’t know, it’s basically a selection of crazy-golf courses, with a bar that sell the craziest teeth rotting cocktails, and it’s dark with loud music – sort of clubby. It was a lot of fun… and I didn’t lose! Bonus!

Next, Matt & I went to Winchester for a long weekend away. It was a super late birthday present for Matt (his bday is December 24^th lol). We had a lovely time and were even blessed with sunshine and warmth on the Saturday. We went to the zoo on Friday (I’m always torn about visiting zoos… I love seeing the animals but I feel so bad!), then we explored the city while the weather was nice on Saturday.

Winchester is a super old city, it used to be the English Capital before London! There’s lots of history to see, including the super old (and super impressive) Cathedral, The Great Hall, and the City Mill.

It was a wonderful weekend away, we had a lot of fun!

After that expensive weekend, we then went out for Tyler & Jess’ birthday! It was a really fun night out and everyone got very merry. Here’s some of the more attractive pictures I took…

And lastly, last weekend our friend James and his band China Bears (check them out here!) played a gig in Aylesbury, so we went to go see them. We don’t get to see James much (he’s one of Matt’s besties, and I’ve known him for 10 years now!) so it was nice to see him and we haven’t seen China Bears play for a while, so it was lovely being there to support them!

That’s a wrap

Wowee, that was a long post this month! I blame all the music finds.

Not a great month for reading, but definitely busy in my personal life. Gotta stop going out… need to save for the holiday!
