Series I need to get my butt in gear and read!

BOOK REVIEW BANNER - Book series I need to read!

I’m not big into series, as many of you already know, but on the rare occasion, I will start one and mean to go on with it. I started a lot of series in last few years, but I rarely got around to reading the 2nd book. Or in another scenario, I started a series yet to be written! So today I wanted to talk about some of the series I want to continue reading.

The Charlie Priest series

I was lucky enough to receive The Mayfly from Readers First and I really enjoyed it, even though I was sort of disappointed by one aspect of the story. When I had finished it, I hadn’t really expected it to hint to a series, but at the same time, I could totally see why the author would want to continue the Charlie Priest character.

Priest is a lawyer, not a detective, so for me that made this book standout among the hundreds of police procedurals out there. I’m definitely looking forward to book 2, which appears to be called The Ash House and is set to publish September 2018.

The 4MK Thriller series

I definitely went into this one with huge expectations due to the mass amount of hype and the sticker on the book calling it a beautiful mashup of Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. Unfortunately, for me, it didn’t quite live up to the hype, but I still enjoyed it.

What gets me excited for book 2 of this series is that not only does it follow a detective (porter) and his team, it also follows the same killer! I’m super looking forward to The Fifth to Die coming out in July 2018!

The DS Manon series

Although this thriller was definitely slow moving and a touch more emotional and poignant than other police procedurals, I still loved it. I mean the review on the front of the book says it all really!

What I loved so much about this series was that DS Manon was so unlike other main characters in police procedurals! She was funny, smart, and determined. There was so little of that annoying baggage so many fiction police officers have. I’m waaayyy behind on getting round to reading the 2nd book in this series! Gotta get my butt in gear and read Persons Unknown ASAP!

The Detective Erika Foster series

I’ve read a solid 4 of the Erika Foster series, and with each book, I’m losing my patience with the characters and the story lines. Book number 1 opened up my mind to the police procedural and I’m really sad that the rest haven’t entertained me in the same way!

I’ve given myself a bit of a break from these books for a good while now. I have book 5, Cold Blood, to read next, I’m just hoping that I love it!

The Rizzoli & Isles series

Two things to say about this series, real quick… it’s 20 books! TWENTY! and grrr, don’t you just hate that series cover change?! Anyway, this series might come as a surprise to some of you who read my review of The Surgeon, because I didn’t love it, but I still want to a few more of the books a go because so many others love this series.

It’s been a while since I read the first book, so it’s about time I got on with book number 2, The Apprentice.

The Hungry Plague series

I really love good dystopian fiction, it’s some of my favourite work, but it’s not always easy to do. When I read The Girl With All the Gifts I was amazed by Carey’s world and character building, and the excellent execution of the dystopian world topped everything off, so when I heard his latest book was going to continue the story (or at least the setting) of the first novel, I was super excited!

I have put The Boy on the Bridge on my TBR for the year, as it was pre-order that I never got around to. I’m thinking of taking it on holiday with me!

The Fabian Risk series

This is another police procedural series I’m interested in and it definitely doesn’t get enough recognition! I’ve only read the first book myself, but I really enjoyed it and thought the story for it was so unique and clever! I’m not even sure how I first discovered this series, but it’s definitely one I want to carry on reading.

I need to move onto The Ninth Grave at some point soon. They’re quite big books so I’ve stepped back from committing myself to this series, but I will get around to book number 2 eventually!

So there you have it! Those are a few book series that I’ve started and not continued with, and with the exception of the Erika Foster series, I haven’t even passed book 2 (when possible).

Have you read any of these series? Did you enjoy the books you read?

Also, what series have you started but not read? I’d love to know in the comments!

  1. I started the Weather Warden series (Rachel Caine) ages ago and never picked up book 2 even though I always intended to. I also haven’t continued with the October Daye or InCryptis series (both Seanan McGuire) even though I’ve read the 3 books that I’ve read in each series. I need to get working on that, too.

  2. Erika Foster is great and I’m intrigued by The Fourth Monkey. I read some early Tess Gerritsens but haven’t for a while. It’s a bit overwhelming when there’s so many. (And yes, I hate cover changes!!)
