Hello everyone! Here is my latest Netgalley picks blog post.
Almost forgot to do this post because of the Bank Holiday! Thought it was still the weekend.
Anyway, here are some of the best sounding books I’ve found on Netgalley this week, not many to look at this week again, but I presume that’s got something to do with the bank holiday?

Title: The Fifth to Die (4MK #2)
Author: J. D. Barker
Synopsis: Detective Porter and the team have been pulled from the hunt for Anson Bishop, the Four Monkey Killer, by the feds. When the body of a young girl is found beneath the frozen waters of Jackson Park Lagoon, she is quickly identified as Ella Reynolds, missing three weeks. But how did she get there? The lagoon froze months earlier. More baffling? She’s found wearing the clothes of another girl, missing less than two days. While the detectives of Chicago Metro try to make sense of the quickly developing case, Porter secretly continues his pursuit of 4MK, knowing the best way to find Bishop is to track down his mother. When the captain finds out about Porter’s activities, he’s suspended, leaving his partners Clair and Nash to continue the search for the new killer alone.
Obsessed with catching Bishop, Porter follows a single grainy photograph from Chicago to the streets of New Orleans and stumbles into a world darker than he could have possibly imagined, where he quickly realizes that the only place more frightening than the mind of a serial killer is the mind of the mother from which he came.

Claire agrees to become a decoy for a firm of divorce lawyers. Hired to entrap straying husbands, she must catch them on tape with their seductive propositions.
The rules? Never hit on the mark directly. Make it clear you’re available, but he has to proposition you, not the other way around. The firm is after evidence, not coercion. The innocent have nothing to hide.
Then the game changes.
When the wife of one of Claire’s targets is violently murdered, the cops are sure the husband is to blame. Desperate to catch him before he kills again, they enlist Claire to lure him into a confession.
Claire can do this. She’s brilliant at assuming a voice and an identity. For a woman who’s mastered the art of manipulation, how difficult could it be to tempt a killer into a trap?
But who is the decoy . . . and who is the prey?

Title: The Hatch
Author: Joe Fletcher
Synopsis: Drawing upon Edmund Burke’s definition of the sublime—the odd beauty associated with fear and self-preservation; our astonished delight in what destroys, what overpowers and compels us toward darkness—these strange poems mine the sinister fault lines between weird fiction, expressionism, gothic horror, and notions of the absurd, cracking the mundane shell of our given metaphysical order. In the traditions of Nerval, Trakl, Schulz, Tadić, Poe, and contemporaries Aase Berg and Jeff Vandermeer, the wonderful disassociation brought to bear on the reader lies in the conjuring of unprecedented worlds, their myths and logics, their visions and transformations—worlds that resist interpretation almost successfully, and reveal to us the uncanny and nightmarish.

That’s it for this week everyone! Like I said before, not a massive selection this week, but maybe you’ll find something you like the look of!
Have you requested any of these books, or now plan to? I’d love to hear your thoughts
Just broke my NG request ban as I’m DESPERATE, to read 4MK #2! First one was incredible! I’m toying with the idea of requesting The Hatch, poetry AND horror?! I think I need this! 😀 Great picks this week Zuky 👍

I was umming and arring over requesting that one, as I didn’t love The Girl Before… but I think I’m going to wait for a few reviews of it to come out first, before I make any decisions 😀
