January 2018 wrap-up

Books I’ve read this month

I read 4 books this month! One a week!

3 stars
Shame on You by Amy Heydenrych
The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor

4 stars
Let’s Go Play at the Adams’ by Mendal Johnson
by Joe Hill

Favourite book of the month

There was no umming and arring about my top book pick this month! I loved NOS4A2, it’s soooo weird and wonderful! I’m definitely going to read more of Joe Hill’s stuff.

Although I also gave 4 stars to Let’s Go Play at the Adams’, I didn’t actually enjoy the book… it was so grotesque and dark… my review for that book is coming soon!

Books bought or received this month

I was really naughty and bought myself a couple of books this month! I also won a giveaway and received some very exciting book mail from publishers and authors!

Purchased: 3
Giveaway win: 2
ARC: 1
From author: 2

The BookBum Club

The BookBum Club (1)

For the month of February The BookBum Club theme is Beautiful Book Covers!

I’m reading The Good People by Hannah Kent as my February pick. I bought the book this month as it was only £4 on Amazon, and then I came up with the theme for this month and thought the two went together perfectly.

In real life, the paperback cover is a bright teal with a gorgeous copper leaf print sprayed over top. The contrast of the colours is absolutely stunning! I do love a metallic feature on a book.

Join the club and tell me what you’ll be reading in February, here!

Book goal update

book goalllA new year means a new goal!

This year, I’ve set my goal at a steady 55 books… basically 1 book a week. I think this goal is much more practical now that I have a busier job and no travel reading time.

I’m on track… good job me!

Here are the pics I posted on IG this month!

I don’t usually include this sorta thing in my posts, but I’ve discovered a new artist who I love! Matt actually said to me the other day “have you listened to anyone else this month?”

He doesn’t have much out, just a short EP and a few singles from 2017 but I love every one of them!

Here’s his 2015 DEEP EP… my personal favourites are Loveblind, Lean Close, and I Feel It.

His newer stuff is super fabulous too! I saw a BTS Instagram story from him saying he;s working on new stuff and I’m very excited to hear it!

Personal update

So technically these first couple of bits happened at the end of December, but I’m including them here because I posted my December wrap up before they happened!

So firstly, Matt’s birthday is on Christmas Eve, so we went out to celebrate on the 29th. It was a really fun night, we got to see lots of friends and we got merry! Here a couple of pics… none including Me & Matt together lol.

We also went out for NYE… obv! For this evening we had a small get-together with out 2 closest friends and went for to a casual cocktail bar. Still dressed up all sparkly and fancy though! Here are some pics from the evening, this time, there is actually a pic with me & Matt!

I also went out for the evening in London with my mum. We went out for dinner at Jamie Oliver’s and then went to see Young Marx at the new Bridge Theatre. It was a really lovely evening! I love going to see live shows.

I haven’t done much else this month. I went to visit my nan last weekend, as I hadn’t seen her since Christmas. In that same journey, I also drove on my first motorway… or make that three! I’ve been avoiding driving on them since I got my car in September, but I finally braved it and it was absolutely fine! No problem at all, phew!

In December, I mentioned that I was going on a small weight loss journey in order to feel confident on my holiday in July. So, I joined Weight Watchers with my parents and have been tracking all food I’ve eaten since January 2nd. So far I have lost… 7lbs! I’m so pleased. My clothes suddenly fit so much better and I can see my collarbones again! It’s amazing how even just half a stone can make such a difference! My goal is to lose another 21lbs before July – I’m sure I can do it!

That’s a wrap

Whew, that was a longer end of month post than usual! Lots of personal bits & pieces this month.

I hope the beginning of your 2018 was great… here’s to a fabulous February!

  1. Good luck on your weight loss journey! I definitely need to get on gear with that too… I’ve become SO unhealthy to be perfectly honest.

Your holidays looked like a lot of fun! And a belated happy birthday to Matt haha!

    1. Thank you! I always dread weigh-in day but it’s been going pretty well this month. I did go out for food last night, so god knows what that’s going to have done to the scales this week 😛
They were fun, but back to work lol

  2. Great post, and great progress! I love the feeling of clothes fitting better — I’ve been casually working on weight loss too, but need to get more serious about it. Sounds like your goals are working for you so far!

  3. Seems like you had a great month! A few years back Joe Hill was very hyped and until now I’ve never tried any of his works… But I love weird books so NOS4A2 will probably fit with me well 🙂 You should totally read The Good People, it was one of my favourite books of last year!
