A few of you lovely people fedback that you thought this first impressions idea was a good one, so I’m at it again with my next book!
This is my first impression of Unravelling Oliver by Liz Nugent.
Synopsis:
Oliver Ryan, handsome, charismatic, and successful, has long been married to his devoted wife, Alice. Together they write and illustrate award-winning children’s books; their life together one of enviable privilege and ease—until, one evening after a delightful dinner, Oliver delivers a blow to Alice that renders her unconscious, and subsequently beats her into a coma.
In the aftermath of such an unthinkable event, as Alice hovers between life and death, the couple’s friends, neighbors, and acquaintances try to understand what could have driven Oliver to commit such a horrific act. As his story unfolds, layers are peeled away to reveal a life of shame, envy, deception, and masterful manipulation.
First impression review:
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am really excited but also wary going in to this book. It’s a domestic thriller at the end of the day, and they really aren’t my favourite kind of books. This one sounds very intense and dark though so I’m hoping it will live up to my expectations.
I’m honestly not a fan of this generic cover and the cheesy tagline, so that brings my rating down slightly but overall I’m pretty pumped to read this one.
There you have it! That is my first impression of Unravelling Oliver by Liz Nugent.
Have you read this book? I’d love to hear what you thought of it!
P.S. I’m on a long weekend holiday in Budapest so I won’t be very active on my blog for the next few days!
Oooooooo! This genre is usually not my cup of tea, but this sounds really good! Too good to pass up. Might have to check it out! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

They synopsis sounds inquiring, but the cover… ick. I might put the book aside based on the cover no matter what the blurb sounded like.

Oops, autocorrect strikes again! That was supposed to be “intriguing,” not “inquiring.”

I know right! I wouldn’t have picked this copy up myself but I was sent it by a lovely fellow blogger so really, it doesn’t bother me that much 😀

That always helps! A personal recommendation can make up for ugly covers.
