Holiday reading summary! 4th – 11th September

Hello all! As you may have noticed, I didn’t upload a weekly summary post this Sunday, and that’s because I was on holiday and didn’t get the chance to… but, I actually finished some books during the week (finally more than 1) and wanted to do a brief update on the blog.

The first book I finished was Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda. This has now been published and I’m aware it’s being very highly anticipated by a lot of readers! Here’s a quick “spoiler”… it’s GREAT. I started off my holiday reading with an absolute banger of a book. Highly recommended!

The second book I finished was The Marsh King’s Daughter by Karen Dionne. I’d been anticipating this one for a long ol’ while, and having lots of blogger friends shout their praises for it, it definitely had a lot to live up to. I really enjoyed this book even though it wasn’t exactly as I imagined it would be. Thrilling and emotional!

The last book I read was The Mentor by Lee Matthew Goldberg. I realise I sound like a broken record right now, but I was also highly anticipating this book, like really highly anticipating it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t blown away by this one. It started strong, it was creepy and enthralling, but it could really do with some editing! Towards the middle I was losing interest and by the end things were just to drawn out and tedious.

I will do full reviews for all these books in the coming weeks, so look out for those!

Also this week, I DNF’d The Wardrobe Mistress by Patrick McGrath that I was looking forward to, but it was just too drawn out for my liking. Although only 320 pages, this felt closer to a 500 page book. After reading for what felt like hours, I only managed to get to 60% and I’m not interested enough to find out what happens.

After DNFing The Wardrobe Mistress on the plane, I picked up a new ARC to read, and that’s The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan. I’m around 50% through it now and I’m actually really enjoying it!

It’s not a strong emotional thriller like The Marsh King’s Daughter, and it’s not a slow building story like Best Day Ever, but it’s an easy read thriller. It’s told in the perspective of two sisters, and occasionally one of the sisters partners, and I’m interested in everyone’s story! Usually I’m only into one character in alternating chapter novels, but this one is different. Both sisters stories are keeping me interested!
