Hello everyone! I’m here again with another one of my Meet the Blogger posts.
Today we’re getting to know Laura @ Snazzy Books. Really, she needs no introduction as she’s an established and fantastic blogger, but I’ve got a little to say. Laura’s an adult fiction blogger (which I love!! Being an adult fiction blogger myself) and I love reading her in-depth and intelligent reviews. She’s a lightning speed reader so there are always new reviews up on her blog, plus, she’s a really nice person!
So, without further ado, let’s meet Laura!
Tell us a little about yourself
I’m a book blogger from Norwich, UK, who loves reading from a wide range of genres but is particularly partial to a well written crime novel! I’m often found drowning under a never-ending TBR pile (particularly behind on that at the moment) but that’s the best type of book ‘problem’ to have really! I’m is also a big time lover of amusing-looking animals, cinema, weight training, beauty stuff and – the main love in my life alongside books – food!
Don’t forget to follow Laura on all her social medias!
When did you start your blog and what made you decide to start blogging?
I decided to start my blog 3 or so years ago when I realised it’s a great way to get more involved in the book community and, I have to admit, the lure of reading advance copies of books before they’re published definitely encouraged me too!
What is your favourite book genre to read, and why?
Has to be crime/thrillers, as when they’re done well they’re addictive! But saying that I also love well-written historical fiction, a bit of romance (as long as it’s not too cheesy!), general fiction (of course), interesting biographies and a good dystopian novel.
Are there any genres you completely avoid reading?
I don’t really read much sci-fi, though I have enjoyed books from this genre before so I’m not sure why I never reach for books like this! I also don’t read that much non-fiction, but I do enjoy interesting NF where you learn something interesting!
Are there any really popular books you don’t like?
Well I don’t know if these are classed as mega popular but I didn’t rate The Loving Husband by Christobel Kent, even though lots of people loved it, and I wasn’t a fan of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, which is definitely a popular choice with most other people!
What’s your opinion on secondhand books?
Always happy to read them and they’re often a bargain in charity shops! My mum always gives me books she’s read too (not that I need more books to add to my TBR list really!). However I have to say, I prefer new books in every way and the SMELL of a new book is just amazing!
What are some of your favourite book covers?
Ohh there are so many! A few include the cover of Foxlowe by Eleanor Wasserberg – the edition I’ve got anyway – and The Witchfinder’s Sister by Beth Underdown. I also think the cover of The Luminaries is beautiful (the dark blue cover), but I haven’t read that yet!
(can I just say, I love ALL these covers too!)
What is your most recent 5 star read and why did you love it so much?
My most recent was The House by Simon Lelic. It was just the kind of thriller I enjoy – tense, fast-paced, multi layered and with interesting characters 🙂
Tough question! If you could only have one book for the rest of your life, which one would you pick?
This is ridiculously hard! I immediately thought that I’d better pick a long book but to be honest I think I’d pick a book I’ve just really enjoyed. Maybe The Secret History by Donna Tartt – love that book!
What’s the best piece of advice you would give to newbie bloggers?
I would say DON’T request/ accept requests for too many books at once – though everyone seems to do that to start – and make sure you share and interact with other book bloggers too, as it’s such a great community and everyone’s so supportive. I found my own blog took off more as soon as I realised the importance of twitter and sharing other blogger’s posts as well as my own!
What’s your favourite social media platform, other than your blog, to talk about books on?
Twitter! Though it’s addictive. I don’t really use Facebook for my blog and I love Instagram but sometimes it’s hard to find time to get really good photos. Twitter is always there and full of book news!
So there we have it! That’s Laura! I hope you’ve all really enjoyed getting to know her a little bit more, and don’t forget to check out her blog and follow her on social media!
Thanks everyone for reading and be sure to keep an eye for a few more of these Meet the Blogger posts coming soon!
