Hello all, welcome to another one of my Meet the Blogger posts! This was meant to be posted yesterday but WP seemed to have a meltdown and didn’t want to upload it, so, here we are today.
Today we’re meeting the lovely Jen @ This Mom Reads. Jen is a recent book blogger but I loved her blog as soon as I found it because she reviews a huge variety of books and it’s often difficult to get blogs where there is no particular theme!
So, without further ado, let’s meet Jen!
My name is Jen. I am a high school English teacher, mom to a one year old little girl, lover of white wine and a newly minted book blogger. I have been reading since I was little. I am pretty opinionated when it comes to my reads, so I figured it was about time I share my thoughts with others 🙂
Don’t forget Jen on all her social medias!

When did you start your blog and what made you decide to start blogging?
I started blogging in May. I have always loved reading and sharing my recommendations with others, however, I never thought I would have the time to manage a blog. After seeing how much fun my friend Sam (@cluesandreviews) was having, I decided to dive in!
What is your most recent 5 star read and why did you love it so much?
It’s been a while since I’ve had a 5 star review, but the last one was Skitter by Ezekiel Boone. It is the second in a horror/apocalyptic thriller series about man-eating spiders that have resurfaced after thousands of years. It is a fast paced, heart stopping read and I couldn’t put it down! I love the way Boone writes. His style is like no other.
Is there any genre you’re sure you’d never be interested in reading? What is it & why?
I won’t read Westerns. I have just never been able to get into them.
Are there any really popular books you don’t like?
Unpopular opinions seem to be my specialty! Haha I was not a fan of You by Caroline Kepnes, which I know has a huge following. I also didn’t like Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff, which even President Obama recommended!
What’s your opinion on second-hand books?
I love love love them! One of my favourite things to do is search through used book stores for titles on my TBR list. You can find amazing deals at secondhand stores.
What are some of your favourite book covers?
(I wasn’t sure which one, sorry!)
Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips (a new release) has one of the most beautiful covers I’ve seen. I also have to say All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr and Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter.
Do you have any bookish pet peeves?
Hmmm…I guess my bookish pet peeve would have to be when authors leave an ambiguous plot detail/ending in their novel. I am someone who likes resolution, so if I am left hanging, I’m not happy!
What book or series could you read over and over again without growing tired of it?
Definitely Harry Potter! I’ve also read Dan Brown’s books several times and they never get old.
What’s your favourite genre to read, and why?
I am partial to historical fiction. I have a master’s degree in History, so I am drawn to fiction that features topics that I’ve studied. I love to see how contemporary authors bring various periods to life.
If you could meet any author, dead or alive, who would you want to meet?
F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Great Gatsby is my favourite book of all time and I would love to talk to him about his writing process and what life was like during the Roaring 20s.
So there we have it! That’s Jen! I hope you’ve all enjoyed getting to know her and will go over to her blog and follow her!
I hope you’ve all enjoyed this post, and be sure to keep an eye for a few more of these Meet the Blogger posts coming soon!
Another great Meet the Blogger post. Really going to have to start doing these myself when some free time pops up. They look good fun.
