So, without further ado, let’s meet Jenna!
Hello! My name is Jenna, a tea drinking and book loving librarian living it up in Canada. Bookmark Your Thoughts is my little corner of the Internet for blogging about books and other interesting posts – within and beyond the realm of literature. My goals? To foster book discussions and provide a safe place for any bookworm to share their thoughts.
Me in a nutshell: Wanderer | Yogi | Nefelibata | Astrophile | Pluviophile | Limnophile | Nature Lover | Otter’s FTW
Don’t forget Jenna on all her social medias:
When did you start your blog and what made you decide to start blogging?
Technically, I’ve had my Tumblr and WordPress for a couple years. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to organize it then and I stopped reading a lot while I was doing my undergrad and then masters. But I didn’t really start book blogging until early this year.
What is your favourite book genre to read, and why?
I can’t pick only one…I’m so sorry, I’m already failing at this! I really enjoy paranormal/supernatural, fantasy, and children’s literature. I also have a great love for the classics, if you want to consider that a genre. I don’t really think it technically is…but I like to group them together 🙂
Are there any genres you completely avoid reading?
I won’t read horror that is basically just gore and torture scenes. I have an extremely active imagination and I also have very vivid images when I read books, so I won’t touch those. I am NOT a fan of books with instalove or love triangles, so I seldom read romances for I find most involve one of the two. Also…anything with scary clowns…
Are there any books you love, that everyone else seems to hate?
The only one I can think of is The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. When I read it in my Fiction Literature course in first year, about 4 of us actually enjoyed the book…
What’s your opinion on secondhand books?
No problem with them! I have lots of secondhand books! Some book series I’m really picky and like them nice and fresh and tidy. Others are much more fascinating when they are secondhand and have had some use. As long as it’s not completely falling apart, I’m happy to have books 🙂
What are some of your favourite book covers?
Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey
Also, Claudia Gray’s Firebird series, Neil Gaiman’s Magonia and Lauren Oliver’s Delirium series – find all these covers and more here!
What is your most recent 5 star read and why did you love it so much?
Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird! Oh my goodness I can barely put it into words; honestly, I’m so nervous my review on it was horrible because my thoughts are chaotic with this book. I loved the language, the life lessons, the fight for change, the desire for fairness and equality, the characters…everything! Yes, these are in other pieces of literature, but it’s not the same. Harper Lee made this her own, an original. You feel engrossed in the tale, unable to walk away from the book until you’ve devoured its contents. I don’t remember the last time a book made me feel this way…it’s been a long time.
Vent over – before I make a mini essay.
What one book / book series could you read over and over again without ever getting bored?
There are a few but two in particular that I actually DO re-read ha-ha! Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy and Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Powers trilogy. I also thoroughly enjoy J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, but trilogies are faster reads he-he.
What’s the best piece of advice you would give to newbie bloggers?
I feel like I’m a newbie…awkward turtle ha-ha! My advice? Have fun! When you need a break? Take a break! For me, this unfortunately not my everyday job and I do A LOT of activities (i.e. walking, yoga, Netflix). Sometimes, blogging can get a little stressful. This is supposed to be for fun, so make sure you do! And reach out! I’ve met so many wonderful people (such as Zuky 🙂 ). I think that’s my favourite part about blogging, getting know so many others who share the same passion as I do!
What’s your favourite book-to-movie adaptation?
It’s a tie between the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Stand by Me (from Stephen King’s The Body), and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (most recent version).
So there we have it! That’s Jenna! I hope you’ve all enjoyed getting to know her and will go over to her blog and follow her!
I hope you’ve all enjoyed this post, and be sure to keep an eye for a few more of these Meet the Blogger posts coming soon!
