I’d like to thank my lovely fellow blogger Marija @ Inside my Library Mind for tagging me in this post. It definitely is time for a mid-year freak out… where have the past 6 months gone?! And how quickly are the next 6 months going to go?I
Best book you’ve read so far?
I have read a decent amount of good books this year, but my favourite so far is definitely Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin!
Best sequel of 2017 so far?
I very rarely read series, and the only sequel I’ve read this yer, I put down as a DNF, so I haven’t got an answer to this one!
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?
There are so many books I could have picked for this one, but I’m going to go with Sweet Pea by C J Skuse. I’ve seen so many good things about this one, so when I have less NG books to worry about, I’ll get round to reading this one!
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
All of these! I actually did a whole blog post about it here.
Biggest disappointment, so far?
Although I’ve had a few bookish disappointments this year, The Breakdown by B A Paris is definitely the highest on the list. This was so tacky, simplistic and dull in comparison to her first novel.
Biggest surprise, so far?
I was not expecting to love Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney, as much as I did! I kind of just expected it to be an average thriller mystery, but it was definitely way better than that!
Favourite new author (debut, or new to you)
I’m going to go for a debut author, and go with Beth Underdown, who wrote The Witchfinder’s Sister. Her writing is so beautiful, I can’t wait for more books from here (and hopefully more historical fiction!)
Newest fictional crush?
I don’t get fictional crushes from books, so another question with no answer!
Newest favourite character?
Possibly Simon from The White Road. He was the sort of character you think is a twat and then redeems himself and you suddenly just adore them!
Book that made you cry?
I haven’t cried at many books this year, so far (surprising) but We All Begin as Strangers by Harriet Cummings definitely bought a tear to my eye!
Book that made you happy?
I don’t read “happy” books. Even crime thrillers that end with the killer being caught don’t make me “happy”, so I’m not sure I can answer this one either lol, sorry!
Favourite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen this year?
Aghh, I haven’t’ seen any! I’ve barely watched any films this year!
Favourite review written this year, so far?
Probably my review for The White Road by Sarah Lotz. I really, really loved this book and I loved expressing that in my review!
The most beautiful book you’ve bought or received this year, so far?
Ahh, this is such a toughy, but I think I’m gonna have to go with Universal Harvester by John Darnielle. The hardback sleeve for this is metallic and in the sun it’s all holographic and stunning! I even made Boomerang on IG to show just how gorgeous it it!
What books do you NEED to read before the end of the year?
Oh God, so, so many! My main priorities come from a post I made at the end of last year about my most anticipated reads of 2017, I want to try and complete that list.
The ones I have left to read from there are:
- Universal Harvester by John Darnielle (currently reading)
- Quicksand by Malin Persson Giolito
- Hekla’s Children by James Brogden
- The Boy on the Bridge by M. R. Carey
- Into the Water by Paula Hawkins
- See What I Have Done by Sarah Schmidt
I liked looking back over the last 6 months to find my answers for these questions! Thanks again for tagging me Marija!

I complete agree about The Breakdown. I didn’t care for it, either. I’ve never read Rosemary’s Baby, but the movie scared me to death (it didn’t help that I was pregnant at the time.). I’m def. adding We All Begin as Strangers.

The movie and the book are both great! I think the book freaked me out a little more though :)~
You should, it’s a fantastic read 🙂
