Mini-review: The Other Place by Mary Gaitskill

Short story about the father of a thirteen-year-old boy who recalls the violent fantasies he had when he was younger…

There is certainly something disturbing about this short, but I can’t say that I found it particularly creepy, like I imagined I would.

I think there is a kind of Other Place in us all, maybe not as dark as the one in the story, but there is certainly a place we all go to, inside of ourselves, that may be a bit more obscene than we like to admit.

A well written story but not all I hoped it would be.
