Thursdays: short story review

This is a weekly book meme, made by yours truly, where we read one short story from and then review it!

  • On Thursday, I will pick a short story from for us to all read…
  • The next Thursday, we will all review the story that was picked the previous week…
  • The review can be in-depth or short and snappy! There are no boundaries on how you want to review the story…
  • After my own personal review of that weeks story, I will post the next story to read for next week…
  • And on and on it goes…
  • Please remember to tag back to my post (pingback!!) if you join in on this meme, that way I can read all your reviews!

THIS WEEK’S TOR.COM READ WAS: Excerpts from a Film (1942-1987) BY A.C. Wise

3 stars

My mini-review:

I tried to like this one more, but I couldn’t. While the descriptions and writing was truly beautiful, so imaginative and real, the story was a bit pretentious, in my opinion, and so I couldn’t connect with it like I had imagined I would.

This was called “disturbing” but I didn’t really think that about it myself. I’m used to “horror” by now and this just didn’t cut it for me. I hope Wise keeps writing though, because she has a real knack for it!

“Selfies,” by Lavie Tidhar, is a creepy little horror tale about the fate of a young woman who makes the mistake of a lifetime when she buys a new phone in the local mall.
