Happy St Patrick’s Day all! 🍀

After I finished Rosemary’s Baby earlier this week, I went on a bit of an old-school horror binge. So, here they all are!

(I’ve been styling these kind of differently over the past few weekds and I don’t like how the block quote makes my text really big so I’m going back to just making my comments bold)

455764
Audrey Rose
by Frank de Felitta

Synopsis: Suppose a stranger told you your daughter was his daughter in another life? Suppose you began to believe him? Suppose it was true?

What is this even going to be about and how is the story going to be presented? I love books like this where there is basically nothing to go off of before you get into it. Plus, look at that cover… how could I not want it? It seems like you can only get this 2nd hand (80p on Amazon UK!!) so if you’re not into used book, this is a no go unless you want to pay £40!!

The Fog
by James Herbert

Synopsis: A peaceful village in Wiltshire is shattered by a disaster which strikes without reason or explanation, leaving behind a trail of misery and horror. A yawning, bottomless crack spreads through the earth, out of which creeps a fog that resembles no other. Whatever it is, it must be controlled.

There are two film versions of this novel, I believe I’ve seen the 1980’s one, but I can’t exactly remember if I’m just thinking about The Mist lol! Anyway, this sounds fantastically creepy so I definitely want to read it at some point. (You can get this one new from £3 on Amazon UK).

Burnt Offerings
by Robert Marasco

Synopsis: The Rolfes — Ben, wife Marian, son David, and Aunt Elizabeth — are a pleasant family from New York seeking to escape from the doldrums of a summer in their Queens apartment. They find a beautiful old country mansion on Long Island — restful, secluded, with pool and private beach — perfect, for the right people. But their “perfect” summer home hides terrors beyond their wildest imaginings. During that long summer the house becomes a nightmare from which there seems to be no escape.

Creepy story about a creepy house? Yes please! I love this kind of plot. (Can buy new from £10!)

The Sentinel
by Jeffrey Konvitz

Synopsis: Aspiring model Allison Parker finally moves into her dream apartment: a brownstone on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. But her perfect home quickly turns hellish.

The building is filled with a cast of sinister tenants, including a reclusive blind priest, who seems to watch her day and night through an upstairs window. Eventually, Allison starts hearing strange noises from the empty apartment above hers. Before long, she uncovers the building’s demonic secret and is plunged into a nightmare of sinful misdeeds and boundless evil.

Religious creepiness is so overdone but it basically always works! I like the idea of a creepy stalker priest, plus this says it’s “in the tradition of Rosemary’s Baby“, what more could I want? (Seems you will have to buy this one 2nd hand unless you wanna pay £60!)

Sweetheart, Sweetheart
by Bernard Taylor

Synopsis: DARK FOREBODINGS.

All should have been well for Colin and his English bride — but his twin brother, David, sensed trouble. Growing obsessed, David made his way to England to calm his fears — instead he found an…

UNBOUNDED HELL.

Colin and his wife were dead — victims of ghastly violence. Their seemingly serene cottage seethed with an aura of murder, madness, and betrayal. Overpowered by the evil, David soon embarked on a…

JOURNEY INTO THE MACABRE.

Suffocatingly, the presence grew…grew to a malevolent force trying to kill David’s fiancee…grew until David himself was a helpless prisoner of unholy passion!

Another book where I kind of have noooo idea what’s going on or what could possibly happen in it… (You can get this new for £10… a different cover to this one though, but still as pretty!)

So, those were my  weekly finds! What do you guys think? Anything you’d be interested reading on here?

  1. Hello, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you! 😀
Great selection of horror reads here. I was so surprised to see that The Fog is a book. I never knew! It’s always so neat to discover just how many movies are based off of books that came long before them.
And you’re absolutely right about there being two different films based off of The Fog. The 1980’s one by John Carpenter, and the 2005 remake also called The Fog. The Mist is actually based off of a Stephen King novella also called The Mist. 🙂
Your blog seems delightful. Looking forward to reading more of your posts!
